Masturbation Facts

Forget whatever you’ve heard about masturbation. Masturbation is one of those topics you very rarely ever hear the facts about, but no one wants to talk about it. As any topic having to do with sex or the genitals, masturbation is not a topic for polite conversation. But when you’re young and healthy, you’re bound to have questions about your body. Hopefully, this will give you all the facts about masturbation you really need to know.

Masturbation is when you manipulate touch your genitals to get an orgasm. It usually feels really good. It also feels really intense. Your genitals often put out as much moisture as if you’ve urinated, but you haven’t done anything wrong. It’s natural. Animals masturbate. Ever wonder why Fido keeps licking the same spot over and over again? Now you know.

Masturbation is something you do in private. It’s a good time to find out about your body. Many people think the orgasms from masturbation are better than in actual sex. It’s good to know how to please yourself, so you can teach a lover later on. If you don’t want a lover (which is all right), you can release tensions and have a good time. Some people find when they can’t sleep, masturbation helps them to get drowsy.

There are many myths about masturbation. Many people still are told that “touching yourself” or “playing with yourself” will led to blindness, madness or hairy palms. You won’t. You can’t get pregnant by masturbating. Some religions state that masturbation is a sin, so doing it leads to guilt. Having orgasms outside of marriage does not hurt your body in any way.

So why do many people think that masturbation is bad, or sinful? Perhaps because an orgasm is such a powerful, all-encompassing sensation. You feel out of control and strange, unusual and shocking thoughts can occur. This probably led to some religions thinking that any kind of orgasm that didn’t have to do with making babies was bad. Perhaps thinking their children are interested in sex is a sign that they are growing up, which can make some parents very sad, because they want their children to stay young forever. Masturbation is only bad when that is what you want to do all the time. It’s like eating only chocolate. Your body just can’t eat only one kind of food in order to stay healthy. Our sexuality, including masturbation, is a part of our complicated lives.

Everybody has their own way of masturbating. We are all unique individuals, with individual likes and dislikes. Some like to fantasies while masturbating, some like to look at sexy images, and some just turn their minds off and go with the flow. Some rub, some use sex toys like vibrators, and some prefer their hands. And some people are just not interested in orgasms. That’s okay. Don’t make fun of anyone if they say they never masturbate. They could be telling the truth. Would you like it if they made fun of you for liking chocolate, or needing to wear glasses, or something trivial like that? The biggest fact about masturbation is that it only plays a small part in our lives, and so is nothing to worry about.

Gildas you are completely wrong. Teens should not feel bad about masturbation. The article is right, it is a natural thing. I do it and i never feel empty after and don’t feel bad for doing it.

Gildas, shut your mouth. Would you rather have teenagers running having sex, or masturbating? The popularity rate might just go up if teens take your advice.

How much nutrient does a adult male lose after masturbation ?

Peter / July 14th, 2007, 7:11 am / #

Hi. I’m the ghostwriter of this article and I’m enjoying the comments. I have been raised in a varitey of religions and points of view, and have lived in two continients. Masturbation is not wrong…unless you do it during a funeral. If you feel “bad ” after masturbating, that has to do with how you were raised, and has nothing to do with the act itself

I masturbate. Im a girl. I don’t see the big deal about it. I used to feel guilty, but I was told that it was normal, and that most people do it even if secretly. It isn’t true that it makes sex not feel as good. If anything it was better if I had sex right after masturbating.

Anyway, I don’t think that you should feel guilty. Hell, you should be proud.

This post is correct; there are a lot of misconceptions about masturbation. Masturbation is still considered taboo in today’s society. Anatomically speaking, there is nothing wrong with masturbation. Morally speaking, you have to decide for yourself what moral philosophy you want to follow and a theologist/philosopher would be better for that discussion.

Research indicates that masturbation may actually help enhance your sex life (now or in the future) by increasing your familiarity with yourself and your own sexual response cycle. Some interesting facts on masturbation:

In 1948 and 1953, Alfred Kinsey’s research showed that 92% of males and 62% of females reported in engaging in masturbation. 68% of males and 40% of females reached their first orgasm during masturbation. 82% of boys and 20% of girls masturbate before age 15.

Janus & Janus (1993) found that 48% of single men masturbate weekly or more, whereas 28% of women do so.

The National Health and Social Life Survey found that people who are having regular sex with a partner masturbate more than people who are not having regular sex (Laumann, 1994).

In relationships, masturbation is the most commonly kept sexual secret between the partners (M. Klein, 1998).

There is a strong taboo that makes women feel it is not acceptable to admit that they masturbate. This goes back to the double standard and stereotype that woman were not supposed to take pleasure in sexual activities. This is why women are more likely to report feeling guilty about masturbation than men (Davidson & Darling, 1986). This guilt may interfere with psychological and physiological sexual satisfaction in general (Davidson & Darling, 1993).

Masturbation is one of the most underreported sexual behaviors in adolescences. This is mainly because adolescent masturbation is a sensitive topic, and adolescents are often somewhat reluctant to admit to doing it (C. J. Halpern, 2000).

There are the facts. I would encourage you to check my sources and look at the research yourself. The key thing to remember is that masturbation is very common. However, it is an individual choice and it is alright is you choose or choose not to do it.

i masturbate all the time. Me and rosey have quite a close relationship. If anyone thinks that this amazing act is wrong, i stongly state shananagins!!!
And for anyone that was questioning JESUS, it is very true that sticking fingers up your butt makes things go much quicker… if you know what i mean. BOB you dont but everyone else… yeah. So for all you prepubescent teens out there that cant seem to find that special someone to jerk your chicken, just know youve got two awesome friends to keep you company on those long lonely nights at home.
If you need any adivce gimmi a call.

WTF!!! that is not gross really that you stick your finger up your butt (RRAVEN), but it is F-ing messed up that you lick your fingers afterwards!!! I don’t believe that masturbating is a sin or something bad, i think it is just a normal part of life. Also i think that if you feel bad after doing it, that you have some major insecurities.

Hey, I was just wondering, if my boyfriend and I have sex an hour or so after he has masturbated (and thus ejaculated), can I get pregnant ? Even if he washed his penis afterwards ? What are the risks ?

Annie / November 21st, 2007, 9:47 pm / #

i masturbate while thinkin ofa real hot girl

am i normal

frito / December 27th, 2007, 7:56 pm / #

I’m a virgin. I like to masturbate to animal erotica. I dream of having an elephants penis in my ass. Will someone touch my penis its getting lonely

Jimmy / December 30th, 2007, 3:43 pm / #

Frito - you are totally normal
Kyle - that is natural and you can keep on ‘doing’ him
Annie - if you and your boyfriend have sex after he has masturbated without a condom and he cums then yes you can get pregnant. If he doesn’t cum yes you still can get pregnant (through possibly the come from his masturbation or his pre-cum from sex)
You can largely minimise the chance by having safe sex

The bible says something like you must not have sex with out marrage….

Guys do you know the bible was edited by the pope in the medieval period!! They took in and removed pages such as masturbation.

The ones who think it is one are wrong because if you do not masterbate for a certain time you are certain to have a wet dream any way, which is your body masturbating for you.

some guy / February 15th, 2008, 6:25 pm / #

Everybody is different, and we need to respect those differences.

When I “touch myself,” or masturbate, I need to be blindfolded, have the “fat” part of a lubricated lightbulb inside of my butt-hole, and safety pins piercing both of my nipples.

That’s the only way I can get off. Like I said, everyone’s different. There isn’t any shame in learning how to uniquely express your own sexuality.

Thanks, and best of luck to everyone out there!

Hey, I was looking for facts, that means medically or scientifically backed up evidence for claims. All I saw here were claims. I am not disagreeing with them, but where are the facts?

I mastturbated once i pulled my gingo very hard it came out … it hurts trust me, not being able to connect it again, i felt empty without anything dangling between my legs, but i still have it in a box and ice if medicin was better some day they will attach if for me and i wish it goes larger.

Sam / October 30th, 2008, 4:50 am / #

Masturbating it actually fun. Its not wrong at all. Once you’re married and get the REAL THANG, you’ll be good. But if you’re young right now, just stick to the naturals like masturbating and kissing. Point blank period
